DESCRIPTION:Recognition and Recollection aims to amplify the impact of art on mental health. Artists know how important creating and experiencing creativity is for well-being. This initiative magnifies the significance arts and culture have on our mental health and the human experience. Artists are invited to submit work that explore the following themes: · Mental Health Challenge · Memory\, Consciousness & the Self · Alzheimer’s & Cognitive Decline · Art as Health Advocacy · Mental Health & Complex Social Issues · States of Being (ie; joy\, sadness\, reflection…etc) \nThis show is a collaboration between the Five Arts Guilds of Cowichan Valley Regional District; CSAG (Mill Bay\, Cobble Hill and Shawnigan Lake\, CVAC (Cowichan Valley Arts Council)\, Arts at Cowichan Lake\, Arts Council of Ladysmith\, and Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts and the CVRD Arts and Culture. The show will be held January 8th to February 28th\, 2026 in the lobby of the Cowichan Arts Centre Theatre.

DESCRIPTION:Recognition and Recollection aims to amplify the impact of art on mental health. Artists know how important creating and experiencing creativity is for well-being. This initiative magnifies the significance arts and culture have on our mental health and the human experience. Artists are invited to submit work that explore the following themes: · Mental Health Challenge · Memory\, Consciousness & the Self · Alzheimer’s & Cognitive Decline · Art as Health Advocacy · Mental Health & Complex Social Issues · States of Being (ie; joy\, sadness\, reflection…etc) \nThis show is a collaboration between the Five Arts Guilds of Cowichan Valley Regional District; CSAG (Mill Bay\, Cobble Hill and Shawnigan Lake\, CVAC (Cowichan Valley Arts Council)\, Arts at Cowichan Lake\, Arts Council of Ladysmith\, and Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts and the CVRD Arts and Culture. DESCRIPTION:The singers that make up the award-winning Victoria B.C. based Balkan Babes are dedicated to both the intricate music of the Balkan region\, and to the challenging and highly rewarding process of operating as a collective\, with no director.  Drawn to the penetrating harmonies\, asymmetric rhythms\, unusual ornamentations and powerful emotions that characterize the rich and timeless folk music of Eastern Europe\, Balkan Babes strive for an authentic sound in vocal production and pronunciation\, while opening up many songs to their own interpretations and arrangements. \nSinging together for over 25 years\, Balkan Babes have released three full length records since 1999 including Divna in 2008; Volio in 2012; and Zajedno in 2019\, all to warm reviews. The albums explore themes of love\, life\, longing\, and loss\, bridging cultures and times and making accessible the diverse musical traditions of the Balkans to music lovers near and far. \nNovo Drom\, meaning New Road in Slavic and Romani\, is a musical adventure which interweaves Balkan culture\, Romani sound\, and a West Coast vibe. SUMMARY:Spotlight Series: The Chimney Swallows
DESCRIPTION:The Chimney Swallows are a unique folk music duo and microtheatre troupe composed of songwriters Raghu Lokanathan and Corwin Fox. Playing music together casually\, while working (& picketing) for the Victoria Public Library the friends discovered they had a mutual affinity for long conversations\, song games and the stories of random strangers\, & so began The Chimney Swallows. This is a real opportunity to enjoy a special performance by this unique duo as Raghu now resides in Prince George and Corwin on Vancouver Island\, so it is rare to see them together\, much like the avian phenomenon after which they are named. \nThe Chimney Swallows will be performing two plays and a short set of songs during Cowichan South Arts Guild’s Spotlight Series at Shawnigan Lake Community Centre’s Lounge\, Oct 3rd\, 7pm.\nTo create ‘Cut Down’  Raghu and Corwin memorized actual conversations they had with their elderly neighbours and used them to create a new conversation between two old men who never met in real life. ‘Cut Down’ is an exploration of aging and change\, and gently touches upon the universal suffering and hilarity inherent to both. Please be advised there is some strong language. \n‘Has There Been a Time Since?’ is a short play that leads the audience through a weekend at a music festival from the perspective of a veteran performer who is observing the experience they are having while they are in the throes of it. \n\n\nMembers: $14 advance – $20 door\nNon-Members: $18 advance – $25 door\n  \n \n
