We are an enthusiastic volunteer run society founded in 2016 & dedicated to engaging, educating & enriching our community through the Arts.

The Constitution and purpose of Cowichan South Arts Guild is:

  • To support, promote and celebrate an atmosphere of creativity in the areas of Shawnigan Lake, Cobble Hill and Mill Bay.
  • To engage and connect our south end community members through arts events and activities for adults and youth
  • To educate and build an awareness of how the arts can enrich people’s lives
  • To highlight the activities & talents of local ‘creatives’ as well as provide opportunities for them to share their skills with others
  • To find ways to partner with other local organizations in support of the arts

Nicole Rallis

Grant Writer

Nicole Rallis is an a/r/tographer dwelling in the liminal spaces between artist, researcher and teacher. She is a settler of mixed European ancestry and lives on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Quw’utsun people. Nicole is a Ph.D. candidate in curriculum studies and art education at The University of British Columbia. Her areas of interest include poetic inquiry, embodied learning, and land-based pedagogies.

Nicole’s dissertation investigates how art teachers in the Cowichan Valley are artfully engaging with the lands they work, live, and create with to think through important social, political, ecological and cultural issues.  She is a co-author of several peer-reviewed journal articles and is an editor and contributor to the book Walking in Art Education: Ecopedagogical and A/r/tographical Encounters. Nicole is also a special projects assistant with Economic Development Cowichan at the CVRD. She is thrilled to join the CSAG Board of Directors and contribute to the success of the guild through providing grant writing support.

Elise Mulder

Elise is an emerging artist in the Cowichan Valley whose work is mainly sculptural in nature, however, she sometimes ventures into 2D painting and abstract. Elise draws most of her inspiration from the nature around her or current societal issues/events that are occurring. Since joining the Guild in a volunteer capacity 3 years ago, she has quickly become a strong asset to the Youth Arts programs in particular, as well as the Society as a whole.

Her reliable efficient manner, & sense of responsible, in addition to her artistic eye make her a strong member of the team. She is currently attending Vancouver Island University for a Bachelor of Graphic Design. We are very happy to now be welcoming Elise to the Board of Directors.
